A First in Philly

Here we are at the end of another NFL season. The Philadelphia Eagles are now the champions. Tom Brady didn’t win another ring? Nick Foles was the MVP? What? After another strong season by the Patriots, and a roster full of changes for the Eagles, the underdog Eagles toppled the mighty Patriots and came out victorious in the 41-33 win. How did they do it?

The Eagles came out strong and played strong the whole game. After only garnering a field goal on their first drive, it looked like they might have trouble scoring massive points like they had been doing all year. Starting with their second drive, the offense came to life. Like I said in my last post, in order to win, Nick Foles had to get hot and stay hot. And that’s exactly what he did. The Eagles were grabbing huge yardage both in the air and on the ground.  By the end of the first half, the score was 22-12. That was a total of three touchdowns and on one of those, Foles didn’t even throw. He caught it for his first career reception. The other factor that helped the Eagles is that they attacked and challenged the Patriots’ defensive line. It’s true that a few drives stalled out, and Foles even threw an interception, but that didn’t stop them. He still threw for a total of 373 yards and three touchdowns. Their ground game was impressive as well. They only had one rushing touchdown, but still ran for 164 yards.  We also can’t forget about their rookie kicker, Elliot, who added three field goals and two extra points.

As for the Patriots, it almost seemed like any other Patriots’ game. The Patriots got off to a slow start and only had 12 points at the half, but the Patriots are usually a second half team and that’s where they got going. In the second half they were able to put up 21 points thanks to Tom Brady. If they had done that in the first half, the ending to this game would look much different. Two of my keys for the Patriots winning was both Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Tom Brady had another incredible game throwing for 505 yards and three touchdowns. He looked like the classic Brady we have come to expect in significant moments. Belichick, once again coached the team to a 13-3 record and made it all the way to the Super Bowl. He once again showed why he is one of the league’s best, and why his team deserved to be here.

In the end, the Patriots did not do enough to stop the Eagles high powered offense, especially on the rushing side. They limited the Eagles to only one touchdown, but still gave up 164 yards. And even though the Eagles were not able to get to Tom Brady very often, the one time they got to him and sacked him, he fumbled the ball with the Eagles recovering it. This really showed how hungry the Eagles were. It was just one of the crucial plays that helped the Eagles win this game.

Its time for the Philadelphia Eagles to enjoy their FIRST Super bowl victory and relish it. They have a strong team for the future, and the future looks bright for them. But for now, enjoy this moment and be proud of your accomplishment.

Congrats Philadelphia Eagles on your Super Bowl championship.
